"It's All Greek to Me!"

Approximately 10% of the students at the University of Oregon are involved in a Greek Organization. AEPi is the only nationally recognized Jewish Greek organization on campus. There are appoximately 35 men in this fraternity. Hillel and AEPi have a good relationship. Once a term there is an AEPi Shabbat. There is interest in starting a Jewish sorority. There are a few Jewish students in several of the different Greek houses. I would recommend going into the Greek Life Office and introducing yourself to the staff and students in there. Each Greek Organization has a mailbox in this office. Good place to flyer. Monday evenings at 6pm are chapter meetings. You can go around to the various houses and make announcements during this time. Sign up to do this in the Greek Life Office.

Programs:

AEPi Shabbat

Once a term AEPi hosts Shabbat. The service and dinner are held at the AEPi house. We do not have our normal Friday night Shabbat services and dinner at Hillel and we encourage students to go to AEPi.

Chanukah on the Row

I sent an e-mail to the presidents of each of the Greek organizations seeing if they would like to host Chanukah at their house. Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority offered to host it. All Greek students were invited. The president of Kappa Kappa Gamma, some of the AEPi men and myself came up with a program for the evening. We gave an explanation of what Chanukah is, played Chanukah trivia and dreidel. It was an excellent way to reach out to the Greek students. This was an educational and social program.
